Suffolk, VA, July 27, 2026 – The Suffolk Foundation invites civic-minded individuals who are passionate about making a difference in Suffolk to apply for the inaugural Suffolk 360: The Leadership Perspective program. Applications are now being accepted through August 15, 2026, for the program’s first cohort of 30 participants.
Developed through a partnership between the Suffolk Foundation and the City of Suffolk, Suffolk 360 is a civic leadership program designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the people, organizations, and initiatives that shape the community. Through interactive discussions, behind-the-scenes experiences, and meaningful networking opportunities, participants will gain a comprehensive view of how Suffolk operates while building relationships with fellow community leaders.
The program is moderated by the Honorable Helivi L. Holland, Judge, Fifth Judicial Circuit of Virginia, presiding in the Circuit Courts of Suffolk, Isle of Wight, and Southampton, and is designed to inspire civic engagement and equip participants with the knowledge and connections needed to become stronger leaders within the community.
“Suffolk’s future depends on informed, engaged individuals who are committed to serving their community,” said Judge Holland. “Suffolk 360 provides a unique opportunity for participants to gain firsthand insight into the issues, opportunities, and partnerships that make our city successful while building relationships that will benefit Suffolk for years to come.”
The program is open to individuals who live or work in the City of Suffolk and are interested in expanding their civic knowledge, strengthening their leadership skills, and becoming more involved in the community. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to service, collaboration, and helping shape Suffolk’s future.
Over the course of seven biweekly evening sessions from September through December, participants will explore a variety of topics, including:
- Government and Suffolk history
- Public safety
- Business and economic development
- Conservation, recreation, arts and culture
- Health and housing
- Education
- Infrastructure and community development
Applicants will be selected based on their demonstrated civic engagement, community involvement, and commitment to the City of Suffolk. The selection process is designed to identify individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds and leadership experiences, creating a well-rounded cohort of both emerging and established leaders.
By the end of the program, participants will have developed a deeper understanding of city operations, established meaningful relationships with community and civic leaders, and gained the knowledge needed to become even more engaged in shaping Suffolk’s future.
Participants selected for the program will pay a $50 program fee, which supports the cohort’s Community Impact Project. As part of the program, participants will collectively select a local nonprofit or community organization to receive a donation, providing a meaningful opportunity to give back and create a lasting impact in the Suffolk community.
