Meet Our Speakers
As Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Sentara Health, and Chairman of the Board for the Port of Virginia, Mr. Layne will be speaking to us about how we can work together to promote health and economic prosperity in our community. Mr. Layne brings multiple perspectives to community leadership, having served as Virginia’s Secretary of Finance from 2018 to 2021, as Secretary of Transportation from 2014 to 2018, and as an executive for several different businesses and nonprofit organizations in our region.
Special Guest: Juan Lascano, Jr.
Mr. Lascano is the Strategic Operations Director for Profound Gentlemen, a national nonprofit with a mission to build communities of male educators of color that provide a profound additional impact on boys of color. A graduate of Nansemond River High School, Mr. Lascano was awarded the Howard Mast Scholarship in 2008 to attend Norfolk State—he was the Suffolk Foundation’s very first scholarship recipient! He moved to Charlotte in 2012 as a high school biology educator and school leader. In his spare time, Mr. Lascano likes to DJ, produce music, and support emerging artists.
