Suffolk, VA, September 1, 2025 — The Suffolk Foundation is now accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations serving Suffolk and Western Tidewater.
The Suffolk Foundation’s Community Impact Grants Program has broad goals of benefiting residents of Suffolk and Western Tidewater, and can support any number of worthy causes, including health, education, the arts, human needs, history, animal welfare, and the environment.
As a community-based foundation, we focus on local organizations making a tangible difference for people in our community. The proposed program must be located in, and serve residents of, Suffolk, Franklin, Southampton County, or Isle of Wight County, and the applicant must be a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity.
Grant guidelines are on the foundation’s website: www.suffolkfoundation.org/grants. The deadline to apply is October 15.
Although a sample application is published on our website, nonprofits should call (757-923-9090) or email (LMorrow@suffolkfoundation.org) the foundation staff for the online application link. We may ask your organization for your most recent financial statements, as well as your list of board members. This will allow us to learn more about your organization and determine your eligibility for a grant. We may also ask for an appointment to meet with you, visit your facility, or talk further on the telephone.
In addition to its Community Impact Grants program, the Suffolk Foundation also manages the grants program for the Suffolk-based Community Action Coalition of Virginia (CACOV), as well as other donor-advised funds. Organizations already applying for a Community Impact Grant will automatically be reviewed by both the Suffolk Foundation board for a Community Impact Grant, as well as by the CACOV committee for a CACOV grant.
However, if your organization does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Community Impact Grant, your organization may still be eligible for a grant from CACOV, especially if your organization is a past CACOV grantee. To start an application, call our staff at 757-923-9090.
Last year, the Suffolk Foundation awarded over $300,000 in Community Impact and CACOV Grants, and more than $1,000,000 across all of its grants and scholarship programs. This is thanks to hundreds of local donors who contribute to the Suffolk Foundation’s grant fund. Many families and businesses start charitable funds of their own through the Suffolk Foundation.
If you are interested in contributing to the Suffolk Foundation’s grant pool or starting a charitable fund of your own for grants or scholarships, contact Lorelei Morrow at 757-923-9090.
