The Suffolk Foundation is pleased to announce that Tanisha Parson, a Surry High School senior is the recipient of the $2,000.00 Amy Phelps Art Scholarship. The Scholarship, available to local high school graduating seniors who are pursuing a career in art with a minimum 3.0 GPA from Southampton, Franklin, Windsor, Smithfield, Surry, and Sussex High Schools or Southampton Academy, was presented at the Rawls Museum on Thursday, April 23rd 2015. The Amy Phelps Art Scholarship was established to in memory of Amy Phelps, a local artist who lost her life in a tragic car accident.
In making the selection, the distribution committee reviewed the applicant’s academic performance, art work, and recommendations. The committee was impressed with Tanisha’s academic record and artistic ability. It was evident Tanisha is a talented student and artist as shown by her 3.31 GPA and award winning art work. Tanisha is a member of the Technology Student Association and the Drama Club.
Tanisha will be attending Mary Baldwin College next year to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. The $2,000 scholarship will be sent directly to the University. Congratulations to Tanisha Parson, a student who has demonstrated a commitment to her studies and doing her best in whatever he undertakes. The Suffolk Foundation is proud to have the opportunity to award the Amy Phelps Art Scholarship to a very deserving student and wishes her well in all her future endeavors.
