The Suffolk Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of charitable fund to support the continuance of The Lewis F. Morris Memorial Scholarship and the awarding of this year’s scholarship to Carlisha M. Bivins, a senior at King’s Fork High School. The Scholarship was established 1993by former students and friends of Chuckatuck High School, where Lewis Morris was a teacher, coach, and principal from 1952 – 1965. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia and came from a family of educators. He led by example and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a fierce competitor who taught his athletes and other students the highest principles of sportsmanship and fairness. His leadership, friendship, inspiration, dedication, and philosophy that education and discipline will mold the youth of today into leaders of tomorrow, was his students incentive to learn.
lude the receiving of the Academic Awards at KFHS 2010 – 2012 and she was an early inductee into the KFHS chapter of Honor Society. You would think with all her school activities that Carlisha would have little time for activities beyond the school walls. However, that has not been the case. She has volunteered for UNICEF, Lake Prince Woods, AARP, and various other groups, too numerous to mention. She was especially proud of designing over 100 patriot themed cards for DOROT 9/11 (Day of Service Handmade Commemorative Card Project). It is very easy to see why both The Lewis F. Morris Memorial Scholarship Committee and the Suffolk Foundation Distribution Committee selected Carlisha M. Bivins as the 2013 Lewis F. Morris Memorial Scholarship recipient.
This year’s scholarship value will be $500, with hopes of increasing the value until the scholarship reaches $1,000. Anyone wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund may send their donations to the Suffolk Foundation, attention Mr. William Hill, 106 West Finney Avenue, Suffolk, VA 23434.
